EXT. ALFRED P. VANCE HIGH SCHOOL - ESTABLISHING - DAY
A bright, sunny day. Students are walking to school.
INT. ALFRED P. VANCE HIGH SCHOOL - CAFETERIA - DAY
DAWN and SHELLY are sitting at a table, with their pasta
lunches in front of them. Shelly is flipping through a school
book, looking for something specific.
SHELLY
I swear, she never even mentioned
this in class. She just made it up
for the test.
DAWN
I'm pretty sure she mentioned it.
SHELLY
Then why isn't it in here?
DAWN
Check page seventy-three. Second
paragraph.
Shelly flips to the page and skims what it says. She looks
up at Dawn.
SHELLY
Okay, you scare the hell out of me.
DAWN
What can I say? I was just created
to be brilliant.

SHELLY
Yeah, I wish I was born that way.
(beat)
Still doesn't help me though. There's
no way that I'm going to learn a
whole test's worth of information in
an hour.
DAWN
Just focus, and make mental notes.
SHELLY
Easy for you to say. You probably
read the entire book in the time
it'll take me to read a page.
DAWN
I've been trained in the art of speed
reading by some of the finest in the
field.

SHELLY
I don't suppose there's any way you
could take over my life for a couple
of days?
DAWN
Sorry.
Dawn sees someone walk into the cafeteria, through a door
opposite her. She watches this person.
ANGLE ON : JENNA
She's carrying a bagged lunch. She finds an empty table to
sit at and proceeds to eat alone.
Dawn can't help but watch her. That is, until RYAN walks up
behind Dawn and kisses her on the head. He sits down next to
her, setting his food down on the table.
RYAN
I like that.
Dawn looks at her food.
DAWN
Pasta? 'Cause I'm pretty sure they
have more, if you want some.
RYAN
Actually, I was talking about the
kiss part. I like that I get to do
that now.
DAWN
Oh. In that case, I think you're
allowed to go back for seconds.
Ryan smiles and kisses her. Shelly looks at them and rolls
her eyes.
SHELLY
Do you guys mind? PDAs are not kosher
at my table.
DAWN
You mean, those little Palm-y computer
things?
SHELLY
Huh?
(beat)
I'm talking about the public displays
of affection. I'm trying to eat.

DAWN
You haven't touched your food since
we sat down.
SHELLY
How am I supposed to eat when I'm
about to fail history?
DAWN
(to Ryan)
At what point do we start to worry
about her?
RYAN
Just after she starts finger painting
on the walls, I think.
DAWN
Ah.
RYAN
(to Shelly)
I don't know why you're so worried.
I took the test last year.
SHELLY
As if you had to worry about grades
while being a big school jock and...
Shelly looks up at Ryan with a big guilty look.
SHELLY (CONT'D)
Can we just forget I said that last
thing?
Ryan is a little uncomfortable, but eager to move on.
RYAN
Let's.
Dawn looks at Ryan, concerned.
DAWN
Am I sensing something bad here?
RYAN
It's nothing.
Ryan looks for a way to change the topic and sees Jenna at
her own table.
RYAN (CONT'D)
So, check her out. Eating alone.
There's a shocker, huh?
Dawn looks back to Jenna, still not over the Ryan topic.

RYAN (CONT'D)
You'd think she'd get less freaky as
time went by.
DAWN
She's not freaky.
Shelly turns around and sees Jenna.
SHELLY
Yeah. It's not like she almost killed
her little brother or anything, Ryan.
Oh, wait.
Shelly gives Dawn a sarcastic look.
DAWN
We shouldn't be so quick to judge
something we don't know about.
SHELLY
Do I sense sympathy for the she-freak?
DAWN
Shelly, enough. You know what?
Nevermind. Say what you want.
Dawn gets up and walks away. Shelly looks to Ryan.
SHELLY
What did I say?
Ryan gives her a shrug, and then gets up to go after Dawn.
ANGLE ON : JENNA
As Dawn and Ryan leave the cafeteria, Jenna watches them.
INT. ABANDONED HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - DAY
KENNEDY paces back and forth, as ETHAN sits in a broken down
chair, watching her.
ETHAN
Is all that pacing really getting
you anywhere?
KENNEDY
What are we doing here?
ETHAN
I thought the plan was pretty clear
to you. Especially considering, you're
the one who filled me in on it.
KENNEDY
That's not what I'm talking about.

She stops pacing and looks at him.
KENNEDY (CONT'D)
We're in this town for a reason, and
yet all we're doing is sitting around,
waiting.
ETHAN
We don't have much choice in the
matter.
KENNEDY
I say we give ourselves a choice.
I'm tired of waiting. I'm tired of
doing nothing. We don't have forever.
Kennedy thinks for a moment.
KENNEDY (CONT'D)
So, the Scythe is in Fort Knox. We'll
find a way to get to it soon enough.
Right now, I say we turn our
attentions to other things.
ETHAN
Such as?
KENNEDY
(beat)
I think it's time we found the amulet
of Morel Divineh.

INT. BUFFY'S HOUSE - KITCHEN - DAY
WILLOW is eating a sandwich at the table. XANDER walks in.
XANDER
Hello, sandwich eating friend type
girl.
WILLOW
Or, you could just say "hi".
XANDER
Yeah, but it seems so impersonal.
WILLOW
Whereas the other way was monogrammed
with my initials?
XANDER
Okay. How about, "Hello, Willow"?
WILLOW
Better. Very personal.
XANDER
Yeah, but kinda bland. I feel so
average.
WILLOW
I'm sorry.
Xander grabs an apple from the fruit bowl and sits next to
Willow.
XANDER
So what's the plan for today?
WILLOW
Work.
XANDER
Work? What fun is that?
WILLOW
The kind that pays.
XANDER
Right. It's been a while. I tend to
forget these things.
Willow suddenly remembers something.

WILLOW
Oh! Speaking of you and jobs, I saw
Mrs. Gimly yesterday.
XANDER
Do I wanna hear the rest of this
story?
WILLOW
Yeah.
(then)
Anyway, she was looking for you. She
said she had a potential job.
XANDER
What's she want me to do, fix a
squeeky chair?
WILLOW
Give her a shot. It worked out pretty
well for me.
XANDER
I guess. It's not like I have anyone
to hang out with here.
WILLOW
Poor Xander.
XANDER
Don't pity me.
WILLOW
Sorry.
XANDER
Okay, you can pity a little. It's
just, with you and Dawn gone all the
time, I usually at least have Buffy
to hang out with.
WILLOW
And she's off visiting her dad for
the day, leaving poor Xander all
alone.

XANDER

INT. ABANDONED HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - DAY
Kennedy and Ethan are still talking.
ETHAN
If it was as simple as that, don't
you think it would have been found
by now?

KENNEDY
I don't care why it hasn't been found.
We need to find it, and now is as
good a time as any.
ETHAN
And how do you expect to do that?
KENNEDY
We'll use a locator spell.
ETHAN
Locator spells don't work in this
town. You know that.
KENNEDY
Locator spells don't work for you in
this town. Maybe all we need is
someone a little stronger.
ETHAN
Who do you have in mind?
KENNEDY
Willow.
Ethan laughs.
ETHAN
(sarcastic)
Yeah, okay. We'll walk up to her and
ask her real nicely to do the spell
for us. If only we'd thought of it
sooner.
Kennedy walks over to Ethan and punches him in the face.
KENNEDY
I don't like it when people laugh at
me.
(then)
If I can't persuade Willow to help
me, then we'll force her to.
ETHAN
What makes you think the spell would
work any better for her than it would
for me?
KENNEDY
She's got a lot more power than you.
I've seen it. When she works her
spells, Willow's a goddess.

ETHAN
And the odds are, that won't mean a
thing when it comes to whatever magic
is working here.
KENNEDY
Willow's stronger than anything this
town could throw at her. Trust me.
ETHAN
Right.
(beat)
One more thought then.
KENNEDY
What?
ETHAN
What do we do when she decides to
hurt us very badly?
INT. ALFRED P. VANCE HIGH SCHOOL - HALLWAY - DAY
The hallway is empty and silent.
THE BELL RINGS. Doors swing open.
No more empty and silent. The halls are flooded with STUDENTS.
Dawn walks out of one of the classes, and starts walking
down the hall.
Ryan catches up to her.
RYAN
Hey.
Dawn stops and turns.
RYAN (CONT'D)
About before...
DAWN
Forget it.
RYAN
No. I'm sorry. I was acting stupid.
DAWN
It's fine. It's just... A couple of
years ago, I was the one getting
looks like that in school. My mom
was sick, and my life was just really
messed up, and people didn't care
about any of that. They just wanted
to make jokes about me.

RYAN
They sound like jerks.
DAWN
Yeah.
RYAN
Which makes me even sorrier for what
I did.
DAWN
It's fine.
RYAN
Good. I don't want things to be weird.
DAWN
Things are always weird.
Ryan smiles.
RYAN
I gotta go. I'm supposed to meet the
nurse in five minutes.
DAWN
Something wrong?
RYAN
Nothing important. I'll see you later?
DAWN
Yeah.
RYAN
Cool.
Ryan walks away. As he walks, he passes Jenna, who is walking
toward Dawn.
RYAN (CONT'D)
Hey, Jenna.
As Ryan keeps walking, Jenna stops. A look of utter confusion
on her face. Dawn can see that she was walking toward her,
so Dawn walks to Jenna.
JENNA
What the hell was that?
DAWN
What?
JENNA
Ryan Crane hasn't spoken a word to
me since sixth grade.
(MORE)

JENNA (CONT'D)
I don't need you telling your friends
to be nice to me.
DAWN
I didn't...
(beat)
Exactly.
Jenna starts to walk away.
JENNA
Forget it.
Dawn rushes to cut Jenna off.
DAWN
Wait.
(beat)
You were on your way to see me.
JENNA
So?
DAWN
So, what did you want?
JENNA
I said to just forget it. It's stupid.
DAWN
Why don't you let me decide that?
Jenna hesitates. She's not going to answer, but Dawn gives
her a "please" look. Finally, Jenna decides to tell.
JENNA
I was coming to see... I was wondering
if you could help me.
DAWN
With what?
JENNA
(long beat)
I can't stop thinking about what I
am.
She looks around, making sure nobody is listening.
JENNA (CONT'D)
I have all of this strength now.
I've done things that... I need to
figure this out. I need someone to
help me with this.

DAWN
I get that. I can ask Buffy to talk--
JENNA
No. I don't want Buffy. She can't
even know about this.
DAWN
But she knows more than I do. She's
been there.
JENNA
She told me that she did this to me.
Is that true?
Dawn hesitates.
JENNA (CONT'D)
Is that true?
DAWN
Kinda. But it's not as simple as
that. You should talk to her.
Jenna shakes her head.
JENNA
Just forget it. Forget you even saw
me.
Jenna starts to walk away. Dawn thinks for a second, and
then cuts Jenna off again.
DAWN
Fine. I'll help you.
(looks around)
We can't do it now though. Meet me
tonight.
JENNA
Where?
DAWN
The gym.
Jenna thinks about it, and finally agrees.
INT. JACKS BAIT-N-BREAKFAST - DAY
Xander walks into the B-N-B, and looks around. He finally
sees MRS. GIMLY sitting at one of the tables. He walks over.
She sees him and smiles big.
MRS. GIMLY
Xander, hello.

XANDER
Hey. Sorry I'm late. There was a
laundry incident.
MRS. GIMLY
Oh, that's fine. I got into the
most interesting conversation with
the waiter. He has a cousin who is
in a band.
XANDER
Neat.
(beat)
Willow said something about a job?
MRS. GIMLY
Right. That's what I wanted to talk
to you about.
A WAITER comes over. Mrs. Gimly points to him and smiles at
Xander.
MRS. GIMLY (CONT'D)
He's the one who has the cousin in
the band.
Xander and the waiter look at each other, neither one knowing
quite how they're supposed to react.
XANDER
Neat.
WAITER
Are you ready to order?
MRS. GIMLY
I think so. I'll have Jack's House
sandwich, hold the raspberry, and a
glass of water with just a tiny wedge
of lemon.
The waiter writes it down and then looks to Xander.
XANDER
Just coffee for me.
MRS. GIMLY
Oh, come on. Eat something. My treat.
XANDER
I'm really not hungry.
MRS. GIMLY
Nonsense. Eat something.
XANDER
That's okay.

MRS. GIMLY
Eat.
XANDER
I'll have the tuna.
INT. TOWN HALL - RECORDS OFFICE - NIGHT
The place is ever so slightly more organized than it was the
last time we saw it. Willow's desk is no longer buried under
a pile of boxes.
She is currently sitting at her desk, inputting information
from files into the database. Xander walks into the office.
Willow doesn't look up. She is too busy to realize that he's
even there.
Xander walks over to her.
XANDER
Hey.
Willow jumps.
WILLOW
Hyah!
(then)
I mean, hi.
XANDER
Didn't mean to sneak up.
WILLOW
It's okay. I was just working.
XANDER
Anything interesting in there?
WILLOW
Town budget from 1957.
XANDER
Wow. That sounds really boring.
WILLOW
It is.
(then)
So... Gimly?
XANDER
Yeah.
WILLOW
And?

XANDER
There was job talk. Nothing solid,
but there's a thing.
WILLOW
What kind of thing?
XANDER
This guy in town, Greg something-or-
other, runs a handyman company.
WILLOW
And she thought you could work there?
XANDER
Actually, he's looking for a partner.
He's hoping to cut back his hours,
and he's willing to let someone else
in on the business.
WILLOW
Does he know that he can just hire
someone for that?
XANDER
I try not to burst money bubbles
that drift my way.
WILLOW
Good idea.
(beat)
So, are you gonna do it?
XANDER
I'm thinking about it. He doesn't
get back to town until Monday, so I
have time.
WILLOW
Well, if it makes a difference, I
think you should. I mean, you haven't
exactly been Mr. Productive lately.
XANDER
Hey, I have projects.
WILLOW
You just keep telling yourself that,
sweetie.
KENNEDY (O.S.)
Now you have pet names?
Xander and Willow turn with shock.

ANGLE ON : KENNEDY
Standing in the doorway.
KENNEDY (CONT'D)
I'm jealous.
Kennedy closes the door behind her.

INT. ALFRED P. VANCE HIGH SCHOOL - GYM - NIGHT
Dawn is waiting in the gym, by herself. There are only a few
lights on in the place, so it's kinda creepy. She checks her
watch.
DAWN
Anytime now, Jenna.
Finally, the door swings open and Jenna walks in. Dawn turns
and sees her.
DAWN (CONT'D)
I thought you changed your mind.
JENNA
I did. About six times.
DAWN
Glad you finally came.
JENNA
I just need answers. I need to know
how this happened to me. Why am I
like this?
DAWN
That's a long story.
JENNA
I have time.
DAWN
Okay.
Dawn tries to figure out the best way to put this.
DAWN (CONT'D)
I guess I'll start with the first
Slayer. What we know about her,
anyway.
(then)
Maybe we should sit down.
INT. TOWN HALL - RECORDS OFFICE - NIGHT
Willow stands up, putting up her guard. Xander tenses up.
Kennedy smiles at him.
KENNEDY
I'm a Slayer, Xander. You're not
gonna hurt me.

XANDER
I've been known to make dents in
people a lot stronger than you.
WILLOW
What do you want?
KENNEDY
Calm down, guys. I'm not all evil or
anything. I just need help with a
project I'm working on.
XANDER
Sure. We'll get right on that. Just
after the tooth drilling and right
before the ritual sacrifice.
KENNEDY
(ignoring Xander)
I need your help, Willow.
WILLOW
You tried to kill Buffy.
KENNEDY
Okay, when did I say I was gonna
kill her? I just wanted what belongs
to me.
WILLOW
What makes you think you have any
right to the Scythe?
Kennedy is about to respond, but stops herself.
KENNEDY
We don't need to get into that right
now. The point is, I lost. Right
now, the Scythe is Buffy's and I'll
deal with that later. What I need
from you tonight has nothing to do
with the Scythe.
WILLOW
Well, in that case, I guess all is
forgiven.
Kennedy walks toward Willow. Xander steps between them.
XANDER
Stay away from her.
Kennedy looks at Xander as though she could swat him like a
fly, but she once again stops herself. She looks past him,
to Willow.
19.
KENNEDY
Do we really need to go through all
of this? We know each other. We have
a history.
WILLOW
Do you really think those kinds of
comments are gonna work in your favor?
KENNEDY
Can we just talk?
(re: Xander)
Alone?
WILLOW
Anything you can say to me, you can
say with Xander here.
XANDER
Which is good, 'cause I'm not going
anywhere.
Kennedy walks to a stack of boxes and sits on them.
KENNEDY
Do you really think I'm someone who
could be evil?
WILLOW
I used to think a lot of things about
you. Now, I don't really think much
of you at all. I'm not gonna help
you, Kennedy.
Willow turns off her computer.
WILLOW (CONT'D)
Let's go, Xander.
Willow and Xander walk to the door. Xander tries to open it,
but it won't budge.
XANDER
It's locked.
WILLOW
It can't be.
XANDER
She must have locked it when she
came in.
WILLOW
No. She couldn't have. This door
doesn't have a lock.
20.
INT. ALFRED P. VANCE HIGH SCHOOL - GYM - NIGHT
Dawn and Jenna are sitting on the floor of the gym. Dawn is
just finishing the story of how Jenna became a Slayer. Jenna's
face fills with confused anger.
JENNA
A spell? Someone did a spell to make
me like this?
DAWN
Willow.
Jenna stands and starts to pace, not knowing how to react.
JENNA
What right did anyone have to do
this to me?
DAWN
We needed to. We wouldn't have won
the fight without more Slayers.
JENNA
Did it ever occur to any of you that
some of us might not believe in
spells?
DAWN
They're real. Trust me.
JENNA
I don't mean like that.
(beat)
Your friend violated me. Not just my
mind, or my body. She violated my
soul. She didn't have the right to
do that.
DAWN
I never thought of it like that.
JENNA
It doesn't sound like anyone thought
much at all.
(beat)
What am I supposed to do now?
DAWN
I don't know.
Dawn stands and goes to Jenna.
DAWN (CONT'D)
But you have this power now. You
have this gift. You shouldn't waste
it.

JENNA
Gift?
DAWN
Okay, bad choice of words.
JENNA
I don't want this. I want it to go
away.
DAWN
I don't think that's possible.
There's a long silence as Jenna tries to work this out in
her mind.
DAWN (CONT'D)
This is who you are, Jenna. You were
always meant to be a Slayer. You
couldn't have been called otherwise.
JENNA
A year ago, I was normal. I wasn't
popular, or athletic, or smarter
than anyone else. I was just normal.
It was good for me. I had my family.
I had a friend or two. I had goals
and dreams.
(beat)
Now what am I? Everyone in school
knows who I am, but only because I
almost killed my brother. I'm afraid
to touch anyone, because I might do
it again. Every dream I have is a
nightmare. You think this is somehow
a good thing?
DAWN
I don't know what else I can tell
you. All I can do is offer to help
you understand this more. If you
won't let Buffy help you, let me. If
you understand the power, you won't
fear it. If you learn how to use it,
you might be able to see it as a
good thing.
JENNA
This will never be a good thing. No
matter what happens, or what I
eventually do with this power, I'll
still hear by brother screaming in
pain every time I turn off the lights
at night.
Suddenly, the LIGHTS GO OUT. From the hallway outside, a
SCREAM IS HEARD.
22.
Jenna turns to Dawn.
JENNA (CONT'D)
Did I do that?
INT. ALFRED P. VANCE HIGH SCHOOL - HALLWAY - NIGHT
Three demons, HARUK, SHINUK, and NANUK have entered the
building, with a girl, GRACE in tow. All of the demons are
of the same family, so they all have the same reptilian skin,
and eyes.
Haruk is pulling the struggling Grace by the arm as the others
close and lock the doors behind them.
GRACE
Help me!
Haruk looks Grace over, very annoyed with her. He doesn't
say a word, he just opens his mouth. As he opens his mouth
at her, TWO FANGS, which seem to have been folded back into
his mouth straighten out (he could never fully close his
mouth with them straightened).
After a slight pause, he suddenly and quickly bites Grace on
the shoulder, and then lets her go.
Grace takes the chance to run, and begins to make her way
down the hallway as fast as she can. She only gets a few
yards before she begins to slow down. She suddenly finds it
hard to move, which confuses her quite a bit. Finally, she
drops to the ground.
The three demons walk to where Grace has fallen, and look
down at her.
ANGLE ON : GRACE
Her eyes are still moving. She is very much awake, just unable
to move.
Haruk squats down next to her. He opens his mouth slightly.
HIS JAW POPS TWICE, dislocating itself.
ANGLE ON : THE OTHER TWO DEMONS
They watch Haruk, as he swallows Grace whole. We'd probably
show this part, but there's just no way to make it look cool
on TV.
Once Haruk has finished, he stands back up. He has a
noticeable bulge in his neck, and his gut has expanded as
well.
The three of them look at each other, and then begin to walk
down the hall. They come to a three way fork in the hallway.
23.
Without skipping a beat, Haruk continues to go straight,
Shinuk goes left, and Nanuk goes right.
INT. TOWN HALL - RECORDS OFFICE - NIGHT
Willow and Xander are sitting at (or on) Willow's desk.
Kennedy is still on her box of files. They're silent, just
watching Kennedy.
KENNEDY
You won't even listen to me? After
everything we've been through?
WILLOW
Everything we've been through?
KENNEDY
We saved the world together. Side by
side. Not to mention the other stuff.
WILLOW
And then you skipped town. You left
me without so much as a letter after
you became a Slayer.
KENNEDY
I was stupid.
WILLOW
So was I. I was stupid for ever
trusting you.
Kennedy gets up and walks toward Willow.
KENNEDY
No. Don't say that. You're a good
person, Will. You have a heart like
nothing I've ever seen before, and I
didn't stop to look at that.
As Kennedy gets closer to Willow, Xander once again steps
between them.
XANDER
Did you think I forgot I was here or
something?
KENNEDY
Get out of my way, Xander.
XANDER
You're not getting anywhere near
her.
WILLOW
Xander, move.
24.
Xander doesn't like being forced into this, but he moves out
of the way. Still, he never takes his eyes off of Kennedy.
Willow stands and looks Kennedy in the eyes.
WILLOW (CONT'D)
Do you mean all of that? What you
said?
KENNEDY
Every word.
Willow's face softens ever so slightly.
WILLOW
What was it that you needed me for?
(beat)
Not that I'm agreeing to help.
Kennedy smiles a little.
KENNEDY
I need you to help me find something.
I'd do it myself, but it's hard to
get a lock on anything around here.
WILLOW
Yeah, there's a whole mystical
dampening field thing here. Makes
some spells go kinda wonky.
KENNEDY
But you can get past it. You're the
best there is.
WILLOW
I wouldn't say that.
KENNEDY
You know it's true.
WILLOW
Well, yeah. I just like to be modest.
XANDER
Willow.
Will looks at Xander and smiles.
WILLOW
It's okay.
(to Kennedy)
What are you looking for?
KENNEDY
It's called the Amulet of Morel
Divineh.

Willow and Xander share a look. Kennedy notices.
KENNEDY (CONT'D)
You've heard of it?
WILLOW
No. It just sounds kinda... What's
it do?
KENNEDY
I can't get into too many details
just yet, but I think that it could
do a lot of people a lot of good.
WILLOW
How?
KENNEDY
I'll explain it to you after we have
it. There's not much point in that
conversation until then.
(beat)
Trust me. This is a good thing.
Willow thinks about it for a second. Finally, she nods.
WILLOW
I'll need some things first.
Kennedy smiles.
INT. ALFRED P. VANCE HIGH SCHOOL - GYM - NIGHT
Dawn and Jenna are at the gym door. They're looking into the
hallway. Dawn finally closes the door and walks back into
the gym.
JENNA
I didn't see anything.
DAWN
They're out there.
JENNA
How do you know?
DAWN
They're always out there.
Jenna tries to process this.
JENNA
So what do we do? Fight them?
DAWN
Probably. Eventually.
(MORE)

DAWN (CONT'D)
Right now, we should probably just
stay out of their way until we can
figure out what they are. Once we
know that, we can go after them.
JENNA

I'm not sure these are vampires.

What else would they be?
DAWN
They could be anything. There's a
lot of different demon types.
JENNA
So then, it's not just vampires?
(beat)
Of course not. That would make it
too simple.
DAWN
That would be simple?
JENNA
Relatively. So, what kinds of demons
are there?
DAWN
All kinds.
Dawn thinks about it for a second.
DAWN (CONT'D)
Oh! One time, Buffy got demon blood
on her and she could hear peoples'
thoughts. And I don't even want to
go into how many demons attacked
and/or kidnapped me when I was
younger.
JENNA
Great. Hey, don't forget to tell
your friend how thankful I am for
the whole spell thing.
Dawn thinks for a second. Finally, she starts walking back
toward the door.
DAWN
We need to get out of this gym.
(MORE)

DAWN (CONT'D)
If we can find a phone, we can at
least call someone for help.
Dawn opens the door a little and looks out. She quickly closes
it, and panics.
DAWN (CONT'D)
Coming! They're coming! Hide!
Dawn and Jenna scurry, trying to find a place to hide.
Finally, they rush to the bleachers, and climb under them.
ANGLE ON : THE DOOR
Moments later, Nanuk walks through the door. He stops as he
enters the gym, and looks around. He's definitely searching
for something.
He starts to walk again, circling the gym.
ANGLE ON : DAWN AND JENNA
Hiding under the bleachers. As Nanuk gets closer to them,
Jenna's breathing gets a little heavier. Dawn puts a hand
over Jenna's mouth and nose.

Nanuk was the name of the dog in "The Lost Boys".

Nanuk gets near the bleachers and inspects them. Dawn watches
closely, waiting to be spotted.
Finally, Nanuk turns and walks away from them, continuing
his circling of the room. Once he gets back to the door, he
leaves the gym.
JENNA
What the hell was that?
DAWN
I'm not sure. It looked kinda
familiar, but I can't place it yet.
JENNA
We have to get out of here.
DAWN
I won't argue with that. We need to
get to a phone.
JENNA
How about a door or window.
DAWN
They might get away if we do that.
JENNA
And we might not get away if we don't.

DAWN
Look, this is what we do. We fight
monsters, because they need to be
fought. If we let them get away, who
says they won't kill someone else?
JENNA
I don't want to be that someone else.
DAWN
Could you get more selfish?
JENNA
I can try.
Dawn climbs out from under the bleachers.
DAWN
Whatever. I don't really care what
you do right now. You can run and
hide and hope that all of the bad
things in the world go away by
themselves, but I'm not willing to
take that chance. I have to stop
these things because I actually give
a damn.
Dawn walks to the gym door, leaving Jenna behind. She opens
the gym door, just a crack, and takes a look into the hallway.
Once she's sure it's clear, she walks out of the gym.
ANGLE ON : JENNA
Under the bleachers. Hiding. Alone.
INT. ALFRED P. VANCE HIGH SCHOOL - HALLWAY - NIGHT
Dawn quietly makes her way down the hallway, keeping an eye
out for any demons. She stops and looks back, half expecting
Jenna to be following her, but she is still alone.
There's a NOISE from the other side of the hallway.
Dawn ducks into a classroom just in time to avoid being seen
by Haruk and Shinuk, who are crossing paths down the hall.
Once they're gone, Dawn sticks her head out of the classroom,
checking to make sure it's all clear. Seeing that it is, she
once again steps out into the hallway.
As she walks, she very quietly whispers to herself, trying
to stay calm.
DAWN
Quiet steps. Very quiet steps.
(MORE)

DAWN (CONT'D)
(beat)
Okay, I need to get to the office
without being seen. Or heard. Which
I won't be, because of the quiet
steps.
(beat)
Then again, I am having a conversation
with myself. I should probably stop
that.
She hears a NOISE, and freezes. She looks around, not sure
what the noise was, or where it came from. Finally, when she
sees nothing, she starts walking again.
She turns a corner.
INT. ALFRED P. VANCE HIGH SCHOOL - OTHER HALLWAY - NIGHT
Dawn is still being as quiet as possible as she makes her
way down this hallway. So far, everything is going pretty
well.
FOOTSTEPS can be heard, coming from ahead of her. Dawn quickly
tries to duck into a classroom, but finds the door locked.
With an "oh crap" look on her face, she stays as close as
she can to the door, hoping to stay unnoticed in the doorway.
Haruk slowly walks down the hall. Dawn watches him as he
passes by her. (As he passes, his head is turned away from
Dawn!)

His turning his head away from Dawn here was very important. Had she been even close to being visible to him, her green energy light would have given her away. Remember, anything snake-like or dog-like will see her as green energy.

Suddenly, he stops walking. He tilts his head, as though
sensing something nearby. His eyes narrow.
Dawn's widen as she tries to figure out her next move.
Finally, Haruk begins to move again, walking away from Dawn.
She lets out a sigh of relief and creeps back on her original
path.
INT. ALFRED P. VANCE HIGH SCHOOL - OFFICE - NIGHT
Dawn quietly opens the door to the office and gets in. She
closes the door behind her and ducks down, just to play it
safe.
A moment later, she rises up to take a peek out the door
window, to see if the coast is clear. It's not!
She ducks down again, just as Shinuk passes the door,
glimpsing inside as he passes.
A few seconds later, Dawn leans up to check for him. The
coast seems to be clear this time.

She crosses over to the counter and picks up the phone. She
quickly dials and holds the phone to her ear. She waits and
waits, but there isn't an answer.
DAWN
(to self)
C'mon, Buffy. Be home.
She waits a little more, but no answer.
DAWN (CONT'D)
Crap.
She hangs up. She reaches into her pocket and pulls out a
piece of paper.
ANGLE ON : THE PAPER
It has writing on it. "WILLOW WORK NUMBER - 555-0917"
She quickly dials again. Again, she waits and she waits, but
there is now answer.
DAWN (CONT'D)
You have to be kidding me.
She puts the phone down.
DAWN (CONT'D)
I'm screwed. I am so very screwed.
She thinks for a second, trying to come up with another plan.
Finally, she decides to take off. She goes back to the door
and checks to see if anyone is out there. The coast is clear.
She opens the door and steps out into the hallway.
INT. ALFRED P. VANCE HIGH SCHOOL - HALLWAY - CONTINUOUS
She quietly begins to creep toward an exit. Just as she gets
to the door, she hears ANOTHER NOISE.
She turns to see if anyone is behind her. As she does, she
finds herself face to face with Haruk.
She lets out a small whimper.

INT. TOWN HALL - RECORDS OFFICE - NIGHT
Willow is leaning over her desk, writing in a notebook. Making
a list. Kennedy stands next to her.
WILLOW
Most of this stuff is pretty simple.
You can probably find it at the food
store.
Willow gives Kennedy the list.
KENNEDY
Got it.
Kennedy heads for the door.
KENNEDY (CONT'D)
I'll be back soon. Don't go anywhere.
WILLOW
As though we could.
Kennedy smiles and walks out of the room.
Once she's gone, Xander walks to Willow.
XANDER
When did you go insane again?
WILLOW
Relax.
XANDER
Relax? Relaxing is sitting in front
of the TV with a bag of cheesy chips.
Relaxing is floating in a swimming
pool on a hot summer day. Relaxing
is not helping Sméagol Jr. get her
hands on precious.
WILLOW
Keep it down.
Willow gets closer to Xander and talks quietly.
WILLOW (CONT'D)
I'm not gonna help her. I'm just
making it seem that way.
XANDER
Oh.
(MORE)

XANDER (CONT'D)
(beat)
Why?
WILLOW
So she'd leave. Now we can plan our
attack.
XANDER
Okay. Good plan.
WILLOW
Thanks. So, I'm thinking that when
she comes back, we jump her and hit
her over the head with heavy things.
XANDER
Works for me.
Xander looks around the room. All he sees are boxes.
XANDER (CONT'D)
Okay, so where are heavy things?
Willow looks around.
WILLOW
Good point.
(then)
Oh!
She picks up her chair and holds it out.
WILLOW (CONT'D)
How's this?
XANDER
Too awkward, unless we wanna roll
her to death with tiny little wheels.
Willow frowns.
WILLOW
Stupid boxes full of stupid papers.
XANDER
I don't suppose the computer stuff
weighs a lot?
Willow shakes her head.
WILLOW
So much for the plan.
XANDER
We still have the upper hand.
(MORE)

XANDER (CONT'D)
The element of surprise. That counts
for something, right?
WILLOW
If we have something to surprise her
with. Otherwise, it's pretty much
just us sitting in here, waiting to
yell "surprise!"
They stop to think for a moment.
WILLOW (CONT'D)
What do you think this amulet thing
is all about anyway?
XANDER
Not sure, but it's the same one Buffy
saw in her dream.
WILLOW
Which probably makes it important.
XANDER
I wonder how Kennedy will react when
she finds out that she's not getting
it.
WILLOW
Maybe we could try to explain things
to her. Y'know... reason.
XANDER
Because Kennedy is reasonable? I saw
her almost twist Andrew's arm off
last year, when he ate the last
Goldfish cracker.
(beat)
I mean, it was funny, but still...
WILLOW
I see your point.
Xander looks around and thinks for a second.
XANDER
We only have one option. We have to
try to fight a Slayer.
INT. ALFRED P. VANCE HIGH SCHOOL - HALLWAY - NIGHT
Dawn is still face to face with Haruk. She's scared as hell.
Haruk looks her over. He raises a hand, as though to touch
her face, but doesn't. He backs away from her, in awe of
her.

Suddenly, he is hit over the head with a chair, and falls to
the ground.
Jenna is standing behind him, holding the chair. When Dawn
sees her, she's very relieved.
DAWN
I thought you left.
JENNA
Me too.
DAWN
Why didn't you?
JENNA
Still trying to figure that one out.
Also trying to figure out why this
thing was backing away from you.
Dawn looks down at Haruk.
DAWN
I kinda have that effect on snake-y
things. I'll explain later. Right
now, we have to get out of here.
JENNA
What happened to standing our ground?
DAWN
I couldn't get ahold of any help. I
figure, it's better to run than to
die.
JENNA
Finally, something we agree on.
Dawn turns and pushes the door. It's locked.
DAWN
Damn.
JENNA
Stand back. I'll break it open.
Dawn steps aside. Jenna gathers her energy and then steps
toward the door. Just before she breaks through it, Dawn
holds up a hand.
DAWN
Wait.
Jenna stops short.
JENNA
What?

DAWN
Breaking the door will make a lot of
noise.
JENNA
And?
DAWN
And, there are more demons in here.
I'm not sure we could out run them.
JENNA
So now we're back to staying in here?
DAWN
No. Just let me think a sec.
Dawn takes a moment to think this through.
DAWN (CONT'D)
We could try a window. One of the
classrooms.
JENNA
Let's go.
Jenna walks down the hall, to a classroom door. She goes
through it. Dawn follows.
INT. ALFRED P. VANCE HIGH SCHOOL - CLASSROOM - CONTINUOUS
The girls head to the window. Dawn tries to open it as quietly
as possible.
Once it's opened, Dawn looks back to Jenna.
DAWN
You go first.
JENNA
Why me?
DAWN
You're the Slayer. If someone's out
there, you have a lot better chance
than I do.
JENNA
Have you seen me fight?
DAWN
Just go. We're wasting time.
JENNA
Fine.
Jenna climbs through the window.
36.
Once she's through, Dawn takes a quick look back, to make
sure no demons are following, and then goes through the window
herself.
EXT. ALFRED P. VANCE HIGH SCHOOL - NIGHT
Dawn and Jenna start to make their way across the lawn.
JENNA
G'night.
DAWN
Wait. What?
They stop walking. Jenna looks back to Dawn.
JENNA
What do you mean?
DAWN
You're seriously just going home?
JENNA
Are we supposed to go out for ice
cream or something?
DAWN
We're supposed to stop these things.
JENNA
We escaped. Isn't that enough for
one night?
DAWN
What about tomorrow night?
Jenna sighs.
JENNA
Fine. What's your plan?
DAWN
Go back to my house. Get weapons.
Come back. Fight.
JENNA
Again, I ask... Have you seen me
fight?
DAWN
You've staked a vampire.
JENNA
When it's back was turned.

DAWN
Let's just go. You can have the
crossbow or something.
They start to walk away.
JENNA
This is what we get for coming back
to school at night.
DAWN
Well, it seemed like a good idea.
JENNA
Who spends their nights at school?
Seriously.
EXT. MAIN STREET/ALLEY - NIGHT
Dawn and Jenna make their way down the street. As they walk,
Dawn's looking straight ahead.
Her eyes widen. She grabs Jenna's arm and pulls her into an
alley.
JENNA
What are you doing?
DAWN
Whole other issue that I don't want
to deal with right now.
Dawn looks around the corner.
DAWN'S POV
Kennedy is walking down the street, with a bag in her hands.
She passes right by Dawn and Jenna.
JENNA
Who was that?
DAWN
One more thing to explain later.
Let's go.
Just as they're about to leave the alley, Jenna stops. She
sees something else.
JENNA
Look.
Dawn looks at what Jenna is looking at.
ANGLE ON : THE OTHER SIDE OF THE STREET
ANOTHER DEMON, of the same breed, is lurking in another alley.

JENNA (CONT'D)
Did they follow us?
DAWN
No, I don't think so.
(beat)
There's just more of them.
INT. TOWN HALL - RECORDS OFFICE - NIGHT
Willow and Xander are waiting by the door, to attack Kennedy.
They're in their own pre-attack poses.
WILLOW
So when she comes through, we jump
her and try to get through the door.
XANDER
Right.
WILLOW
Okay.
There's a long pause. Nothing happens.
WILLOW (CONT'D)
This could take a while.
They wait a little more.
XANDER
Hey, you remember the time Spike
took us hostage?
WILLOW
You mean the time we... I mean, yeah.
I remember. Let's just hope nobody
gets impaled tonight, m'kay?
XANDER
Good plan.
INT. TOWN HALL - LOBBY - NIGHT
Kennedy walks into the building, holding the same bag she
had before.
Ethan is sitting on the lobby floor. He has a small wooden
box in front of him, which he is focusing on.
KENNEDY
We're almost done here.
ETHAN
Good. It's getting rather difficult
to keep them in there.

KENNEDY
I told you she's powerful.
ETHAN
Just get on with it, would you?
Kennedy walks toward a door that's marked "RECORDS
OFFICE/BASEMENT"
INT. TOWN HALL - RECORDS OFFICE - NIGHT
Willow and Xander have let their guard down slightly.
The SOUND OF FOOTSTEPS ON STAIRS can be heard.
WILLOW
(whispered)
She's coming.
They perk up and get ready to attack.
Finally, the door opens. Kennedy walks through it.
Xander grabs her arms and pulls her away from the door. Willow
tries to grab the door, but it slams shut.
Kennedy pushes Xander off of her, with little effort. He
falls back, onto a box of papers.
Kennedy looks to Willow.
KENNEDY
What are you doing?
WILLOW
Escaping.
(beat)
Or, trying to.
KENNEDY
What happened to helping me?
WILLOW
You don't know what you're doing,
Kennedy.
Kennedy puts the bag down.
KENNEDY
Is that what this is about? You think
I don't know what I'm doing?
(beat)
What, you have to be an official
Scooby member to understand these
things?

WILLOW
You're messing with powers you don't
understand.
KENNEDY
Then explain it to me. What's so bad
about getting the amulet?
Willow thinks.
WILLOW
It's just bad.
Kennedy looks back at Xander.
KENNEDY
Because he says so, or because you

WILLOW
It was mutually agreed upon.
(beat)
Kennedy, listen to me. Buffy had a
dream--
KENNEDY
Let me guess. All Slayers created
equal, except for her? She's somehow
still convinced that she's the boss
of all of us?
WILLOW
It's not like that.
KENNEDY
I don't want to hear it, Willow.
(beat)
I was hoping you'd trust me enough
to know that this is something good.
WILLOW
Then explain it to me.
Kennedy thinks about it for a second.
KENNEDY
Forget it. You wouldn't really listen
anyway.
Kennedy grabs the bag.
KENNEDY (CONT'D)
Just do the spell.
WILLOW
I won't.

Kennedy thinks about this. Finally, she looks back to Xander.
KENNEDY
Do the spell, or I'll hurt him.
WILLOW
You would do that?
KENNEDY
I'll do what I have to.
Kennedy tosses the bag to Willow. Willow catches it, looking
at Xander. She's wondering if she has a choice in this matter.

ACT FOUR
FADE IN:
INT. BUFFY'S HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - NIGHT
Dawn and Jenna rush into the house. Dawn rushes to the weapons
chest. She opens it and grabs an ax for herself. She hands
Jenna the crossbow. Jenna looks it over.
JENNA
Don't you have anything a little
more... modern?
DAWN
Modern doesn't always work with these
things.
JENNA
So, shooting an arrow works on snake
demons, but not buckshot?
Dawn thinks about that for a second.
DAWN
I don't know. We just don't use them.
JENNA
Y'know, we could head back to my
house, and grab a rifle.
DAWN
Just take the crossbow.
Dawn starts to walk toward the door, with Jenna following.
Just before Dawn leaves the house, she stops herself and
looks into the dining room.
JENNA
What?
DAWN
Hold on a sec.
(beat)
I know this.
There's a thought swimming around Dawn's head, but she can't
quite put her finger on it. She goes into the dining room.
INT. BUFFY'S HOUSE - DINING ROOM - CONTINUOUS - NIGHT
Dawn sets her ax down and sits in front of the laptop. Jenna
walks into the room.
JENNA
Demons attacking the town. What better
time to check your e-mail?

DAWN
I'm not checking my e-mail... Well,
okay, I did, but it's just habit.
I'm looking up these demons.
Jenna sits down.
JENNA
Whatever. I'm just following you
from here on out.
Dawn types some keywords into the computer and waits for
what comes up.
INT. TOWN HALL - RECORDS OFFICE - NIGHT
Willow is now sitting on the floor. She has a candle in front
of her, along with three bananas, a head of lettuce, a bowl,
a box of baking soda, and a box of cherry Jell-O.
WILLOW
It'll take a few minutes to get a
lock on the amulet.
KENNEDY
Just get it done.
Willow looks at Xander. He looks back at her, shaking his
head in a "don't do it" kind of way. She looks back to the
candle.
WILLOW
I need a lighter. Without a lighter,
this won't work. Oh well.
Willow starts to get up. Kennedy stops her, and holds out a
zippo.
WILLOW (CONT'D)
Oh.
Willow sits down and takes the lighter.
WILLOW (CONT'D)
Okay. So, here we go. Doing the spell
now.
Willow lights the candle, and settles in for some spell
casting. She closes her eyes.
WILLOW (CONT'D)
Spirit of the many winds, come to
me. Locater of the lost... come to
me. Help me find the amulet of
Morel... uhm--

KENNEDY
Divineh.
WILLOW
Right. That.
Willow pours some of the Jell-O into her hand.
WILLOW (CONT'D)
Guide me to the object which I seek.
She drops the Jell-O onto the candle, causing it to crackle.
Willow then pours the rest of the Jell-O in her hand.
WILLOW (CONT'D)
Morelian Queen, come to me. Divineh!
Divineh!
ANGLE ON : XANDER
He rolls his eyes.
ANGLE ON : WILLOW
Still with her eyes closed.
WILLOW (CONT'D)
Shu-mah. Shu-mah! Fill me with the
power. Take me to-- Oh, just forget
this.
Willow quickly throws the Jell-O into Kennedy's face. Kennedy
stumbles back as Willow and Xander get into fight mode.
Willow grabs one of the boxes, and tosses it (as best she
can) at Kennedy.
Kennedy blocks it, and steps toward Willow.
KENNEDY
You shouldn't have done that.
Kennedy punches Willow in the face, sending her to the floor.
XANDER
Willow!
Xander steps up and grabs Kennedy's arm. He tries to throw
her aside, but she grabs him by the neck.
KENNEDY
Do you really want to do that?

INT. BUFFY'S HOUSE - DINING ROOM - NIGHT
Dawn is still at the computer. Jenna is sitting back in her
chair, looking over the crossbow.
Dawn perks up.
DAWN
Got it.
JENNA
What?
DAWN
They're Cercatanus demons. Seekers.
They're summoned by someone to find...
something.
JENNA
Great. And why did we need to know
this now?
DAWN
Hold on a sec. I wanna check the
"How to kill" section.
Dawn skims over the page.
DAWN (CONT'D)
Okay. "To kill the Cercatanus, pierce
them through the heart, or remove
the head."
JENNA
Wow. Who knew?
DAWN
We had to check. Sometimes you need
to know a special method of killing
something. If you're gonna be a
Slayer, you need to remember that.
JENNA
Whatever. Can we go yet?
Dawn stands up.
DAWN
Let's go.
Jenna stands up and both girls head out of the house.
INT. TOWN HALL - RECORDS OFFICE - NIGHT
Kennedy has Xander down, on the desk. She's still holding
him by the throat.

Kennedy is keeping her eye on Willow, who is watching all of
this from a few feet away.
WILLOW
Let him go.
KENNEDY
Will you do the spell?
XANDER
(barely audible)
No.
Kennedy tightens her grasp on Xander's neck.
KENNEDY
(to Xander)
I wasn't talking to you, so why don't
you stay out of this and let the
girls take care of business?
Kennedy looks back to Willow.
KENNEDY (CONT'D)
Will you do the spell?
WILLOW
Just let him go. Let him out of here,
and I'll do what you want.
Kennedy loosens her grasp on Xander.
KENNEDY
Deal.
She pulls Xander to his feet and lets him go.
KENNEDY (CONT'D)
(to Xander)
Get out.
XANDER
(to Willow)
Don't do this, Will.
WILLOW
Just leave, Xander. Get out of here.
XANDER
You really think I'm about to leave
you in here with this crazy freak?
KENNEDY
I heard that.

XANDER
Then imagine what I'd say behind
your back.
KENNEDY
You're pressing your luck.
WILLOW
Xander, listen to me. You have to
get out of here.
XANDER
Why?
WILLOW
Because of this.
Willow extends her arm in Kennedy's direction. She closes
her hand, as though grabbing Kennedy from across the room,
and then makes a throwing motion.
Nothing happens. Willow looks at her hand, utterly confused.
KENNEDY
Because of what?
Before Kennedy gets and answer, Xander takes a chance and
grabs Willow's computer monitor. He smashes it against
Kennedy's head, causing all kinds of SPARKS.
Kennedy falls to the ground, unconscious.
Xander looks back to Willow, who is still confused.
XANDER
I thought we might want to monitor
that situation.
Willow doesn't respond.
XANDER (CONT'D)
Okay, I know. That line was lame.
(beat)
Will?
Willow looks at him.
WILLOW
Hmm?
XANDER
You okay?
Willow shakes it off.
WILLOW
Fine.

XANDER
Good, 'cause we have to get out of
here.
WILLOW
Right.
Willow and Xander head for the door, and try to open it.
It's still locked.
XANDER
I don't get it. She opened the door,
so why can't we?
WILLOW
Magic. Someone's holding us in here.
XANDER
So, how do we get out?
Willow thinks about it for a second, and then looks back to
Kennedy.
INT. TOWN HALL - STAIRWAY - NIGHT
Just outside of the records office, leading up to the lobby
of the building. We see the other side of the records office
door. Still closed tight.
Suddenly, it bursts open. Xander has used Kennedy (still
out) to ram the door open. He sees that it worked and smiles.
XANDER
We're in.
(beat)
Out. Whatever.
He puts Kennedy down. Willow leads the way out of the room.
INT. TOWN HALL - LOBBY - NIGHT
Ethan is still sitting on the floor, focusing.
FOOTSTEPS CAN BE HEARD coming up the stairs. Ethan hears
this, and realizes what's happening. He quickly gathers his
things and moves behind the nearest desk.
Willow and Xander enter the lobby. They look around.
WILLOW
Whoever's doing this would have to
be close.
XANDER
I don't see anyone.

WILLOW
We should find them.
MORE FOOTSTEPS coming up the stairs. Kennedy's awake and
headed this way.
WILLOW (CONT'D)
Or possibly run.
XANDER
That works too.
They take off.
Soon after they're gone, Kennedy comes out of the stairway.
She sees that nobody is out there.
KENNEDY
Son of a bitch.
Ethan gets up from behind the desk. Kennedy sees him.
KENNEDY (CONT'D)
You hid?
ETHAN
Did you have a better idea?
KENNEDY
You could have stopped them.
ETHAN
Right. But that would mean revealing

KENNEDY
So we lose out again because of you.
I'm starting to think our working
together was a mistake.
Kennedy walks out of the building, leaving Ethan alone.
EXT. MAIN STREET - NIGHT
Dawn and Jenna walk through town, looking around for demon
types. None are in sight.
EXT. STREET/ALFRED P. VANCE HIGH SCHOOL - NIGHT
They walk down the street, toward the school. Their eyes are
still peeled.
JENNA
Where'd they go?

DAWN
I'm not sure.
JENNA
So... Is this a good thing?
(beat)
It doesn't feel like a good thing.
DAWN
As a general rule, when demons go
away without any bloodshed, it's
probably not as good as you'd think.
They get to the school lawn, and start to cross it. As they
get closer to the school, Jenna stops. She notices something.
JENNA
Look.
Dawn looks.
ANGLE ON : THE SCHOOL
The main door to the school is wide open.
DAWN
They're not in there.
JENNA
So they really are all gone?
DAWN
For now.
JENNA
What do we do?
DAWN
I'm not sure. This is usually the
part where we fight and get all
bruised. I don't know how to react
to this type of thing.
(beat)
Is it weird that peace creeps me
out?
JENNA
A little.
Dawn lets her ax drop to her side.
DAWN
I guess there's nothing left for us
to do.
JENNA
If you say so.

DAWN
G'night.
Dawn starts to walk away.
JENNA
Wait.
Dawn stops and turns back.
DAWN
What?
JENNA
That's it? That's the end of it?
DAWN
It's getting kinda late. I don't
think there's much else to do.
(beat)
I guess I could research some more,
but as long as no lives are at risk,
I might as well wait until tomorrow
for that.
(beat)
Unless you had another idea.
JENNA
No.
DAWN
(beat)
Okay then. G'night.
Dawn starts to walk away.
JENNA
Wait.
Dawn turns back around.
DAWN
Hmm?
Jenna thinks for a moment.
JENNA
This is what I'm supposed to be doing,
isn't it? Hunting.
(holds up the crossbow)
With really old weapons.
DAWN
Yeah. You are a chosen one.
JENNA
Does it ever get easier?

DAWN
I wouldn't know. I'm not a Slayer.
JENNA
But you've dealt with this stuff.
You know what it's like to be in
that world.
DAWN
I guess.
(beat)
The truth is, as much as you get
used to some of it, a lot of the
time you just want to run.
Jenna doesn't respond to that.
DAWN (CONT'D)
Of course, there's really nowhere to
run. This town was pretty much running
for my family, and look how far it
got us.

Dawn once again refers to her "family" in a way that includes Willow and Xander.

Jenna lets this sink in. She's making a hard decision.
Finally, she speaks.
JENNA
I have this power. I have the ability
to help people.
(beat)
I don't really like it, but I have
it anyway.
DAWN
So, what are you gonna do about it?
JENNA
I'm gonna learn. With your help.
DAWN
Buffy'd be better at it.
JENNA
No. I'm not ready to deal with her
yet. I just want to figure some of
this out first, and you can help me
with that.
DAWN
Are you sure about that?
JENNA
Not really.
Dawn smiles.

DAWN
Good. Being sure about it would
probably make you insane.
(beat)
We'll start work tomorrow.
INT. BUFFY'S HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - NIGHT
Willow and Xander walk into the house. Xander is rubbing his
neck.
XANDER
Slayers have really good grip, don't
they?
WILLOW
You want an ice pack?
XANDER
Nah. I'll handle it like a man.
(beat)
Which means, I'll live with the pain,
but complain about it a lot.
WILLOW
You were pretty impressive back there.
XANDER
Not the only one.
(beat)
"Shu-mah"?
Willow laughs.
WILLOW
I couldn't think of anything better
to say.
(beat)
But seriously, thank you. You kept
jumping up to protect me.
XANDER
That's what friends are for. You'd
do the same for me.
Willow looks down.
WILLOW
If I could have.
XANDER
We'll figure that out.
WILLOW
It's just... It's weird.
(MORE)

WILLOW (CONT'D)
I've tried doing spells lately, and
they haven't worked. I mean, with
the snow storm thing, and then when
Kennedy was in the house. I just
thought that there was something
more powerful working against it,
but this time, it was just me. No
other magics, and I still couldn't...
XANDER
There was the spell that locked us
in there. Maybe that threw you.
WILLOW
It shouldn't. I should have been
able to...
She stops herself, unable to figure it out. Her eyes drift
to the floor again.
Xander puts his hand on her chin and picks her head up. He
looks into her eyes and speaks softly.
XANDER
We'll figure it out.
They stand there for a long moment, just looking at each
other.
Slowly, they begin to get closer. This time, neither of them
pull away.
Both of their hearts are racing as they finally touch lips.
HARD CUT TO:
INT. BUFFY'S HOUSE - WILLOW'S ROOM - NIGHT
Willow is laying on her side, asleep in bed. Her eyes suddenly
shoot open, and a very confused, and slightly guilty look
fills her face.
She lays there for a moment, trying to figure out exactly
what just happened.
From behind her (the other side of the bed) Xander's arm
reaches over and embraces her.

Yeah, some people didn't like the Willow/Xander stuff. I thought it came naturally though, so I liked it. The scene in bed would have been funny. A take on those episodes where something like that happens and it turns out to be a dream.
