TEASER
FADE IN:
INT. CRYPT -- DAY
In the doorway of the crypt, guarded by shade, we see only
the feet of a MAN wearing black leather boots and a long
leather coat. He's watching a burial in the distance.
EXT. GRAVEYARD -- DAY
The day is bright and sunny. Not a cloud in the sky. A GROUP
is gathered around at the burial of a departed friend. This
would be Buffy's burial. People are crying, but WE ONLY HEAR
ONE PERSON CRYING.
THE PRIEST talks, but we don't hear him. Like I said, we
only hear one person crying.
WILLOW and being held by TARA as she cries uncontrollably.
Tara (who is also crying, but not as hard) strokes Willow's
hair gently. Neither one of them is the one we hear crying.
XANDER is holding ANYA. Anya's left leg is in a cast, as is
her right arm. She is holding onto a crutch, but leaning on
Xander much more. Her head rests on his shoulder. Her eyes
filled with tears. A tear rolls down Xander's cheek. He holds
Anya a little tighter, holding back more tears. Still, not
the one we hear crying.
GILES stands only a few feet to the side of Xander and Anya.
He's wearing sunglasses, probably to hide the fact that his
eyes are red and puffy. He wipes a tear away. Nope, not him
that we hear either.
CORDELIA and WESLEY stand together behind everyone else.
Cordy is crying. Though she hasn't seen Buffy in a long time,
this is hitting her hard. Wes rests a hand on her shoulder,
trying to comfort her. This isn't the crier we hear either.
Other people in the crowd include JONATHAN, and WILLY. The
rest of the crowd must be people who went to high school
with Buffy. The amount of people there is impressive.
DAWN stands alone, in front of them all. Like she and Buffy
stood together at their mother's funeral, only Dawn no longer
has anyone to lean on for support. She's crying as hard as
Willow. It looks like she might fall down at any moment. She
is the one we hear crying.

ACT ONE
FADE IN:
INT. DAWN'S DINING ROOM -- DAY
Dawn sits alone at the dining room table. The house is big,
and empty. Not a sound to be heard.
INT. WILLOW'S BEDROOM -- DAY
Willow is back in her old bedroom in her parents' house.
Tara is helping her unpack and put clothes away.
WILLOW
I told Dawn I'd give her some time
alone. I'm going over there later.
TARA
Should she? Be alone, I mean? She
has to be scared.
WILLOW
She is. Tara, I can't stop the pain
I feel right now. It just keep coming
and pulsing like one of those
headaches where you can feel your
heartbeat in your eye.
Willow sits on her bed.
TARA
In your eye? That's... weird.
WILLOW
I miss Buffy so much. I keep thinking,
like, "Okay, Buffy's gonna call, and
we're gonna go to the Bronze tonight."
and we'd dance and laugh and be all
joke-y. Just like we always did. But
she's not coming back.
She starts to cry again.
WILLOW (CONT'D)
She's never coming back, Tara. And
Dawny... poor Dawny. She's alone.
Tara goes to Willow and puts an arm around her.
TARA
Shhh, it's okay.
WILLOW
It's not though. It won't ever be
okay again. Dawn has nobody.
(MORE)

WILLOW (CONT'D)
She's gonna have to grow up without
a sister or a mother. Her whole life
is changing and there's nothing any
of us can do about it.
TARA
There is. It's not going to make
things right, but we can be there
for her. We can show her that we
love her and she does still have a
family. It's not the family she had
before, but she isn't alone.
Willow starts crying harder.
WILLOW
Oh, God. Buffy's dead.
INT. XANDER'S APARTMENT -- DAY
Xander is sitting at his table, alone. Quiet. He rubs his
hands on his face, just to make sure he still has feeling
left. On the table in front of him is a picture. It's the
one of Buffy, Willow and him that we've seen before. All
smiling and happy. Those were the days. But the days are
over. These are new days. Xander's life is changing so fast.
Anya walks through the door. She's trying to carry a bag of
food while managing the crutch and her broken arm. Xander
doesn't see her at first. He's too caught up in the picture
and memories.
ANYA
Hello? Help. Now. Please. I think I
feel my severed bone coming through
the skin.
Xander looks up and sees her now. He goes to her and grabs
the bag.
XANDER
Anya. Sorry. What are you doing here?
ANYA
You haven't eaten in days. Your body
is eating itself and making odd
noises.
XANDER
So you came to make me dinner?
She smiles. It's not a really happy smile, since she's not
happy either. But it's a caring smile. He goes to her and
kisses her.

XANDER (CONT'D)
I love you.
ANYA
I know. You showed me with the pretty
ring.
Xander smiles weakly.
ANYA (CONT'D)
Xander, I want my ring now.
(then)
The world didn't end.
Not literally, but Xander sure looks like it did. Anyway, he
pulls it's box out of his pocket. He opens it. She holds out
her hand. He puts the ring on it. They look into each other's
eyes.
INT. DAWN'S DINING ROOM -- DAY
Dawn is still sitting alone. So very alone.
INT. GILES' APARTMENT -- DAY
Giles is sitting alone in a chair. The room is dark. He's
not drinking or listening to music like he did with Joyce.
He just sits. Looking into an opened weapon trunk in front
of him. Stakes, knives, axes. All weapons of a slayer. On
the table rests a book with the title, "Vampyr". The same
one he showed her when he first met her.
GILES
Into every generation, as Slayer is
born. One girl, in all the world, a
Chosen One. One born with the strength
and skill to hunt the vampires...
(beat)
Why did you have to? You were so
much more than I ever could have
hoped for. More than a Slayer. More
than a friend, Buffy. You were
everything that I could have hoped
for in a child.
He tears up.
GILES (CONT'D)
It didn't have to come to this. There
must have been another way. You were
right, but I was so sure that there
was only one way to close the portal.
Why couldn't I have listened? You
died because I refused to listen to
you. I never listened.

INT. DAWN'S DINING ROOM/LIVING ROOM -- DAY
Dawn sits at the table, just like before. Silence. Alone.
There's a KNOCK at the door. Willow and Tara walk in. Dawn
looks back to see who it is. When she sees them, she walks
to them, breaking into tears and walking into Willow's open
arms.
Willow brings her into the living room and they sit down.
Tara sits in a nearby chair.
WILLOW
Oh, Dawn, I know it hurts.
Willow finds herself crying again too.
WILLOW (CONT'D)
It hurts a lot.
TARA
You're not alone, Dawn.
DAWN
I am alone. I have nobody left. Mom
died. Buffy died. Dad just left. He
doesn't even care. I have nothing
left. Why bother living?
WILLOW
Don't say that. You have stuff to
live for, Dawn.
DAWN
I hate this. I'm created. Put in
this family with memories and love
for people that aren't even my real
family, then it's all ripped away
from me. Why did those monks do this
to me?
WILLOW
They were your real family. Buffy
was your real sister. She even said
so herself. She told us all that you
were made from her. You are a part
of Buffy. And your blood was the
same. Dawn, you might not have been
here for real all this time. But
they really were your family. And
they loved you so much. The monks
gave you this love. But it was real.
And it was powerful. And you'll carry
that with you forever. It was your
gift.
Dawn reacts badly to the word "gift".

DAWN
I hate gifts.
Willow and Tara share a look.
TARA
Dawn, is there anything I can get
for you?
Dawn shakes her head at first, but then changes her mind.
She looks at Tara.
DAWN
Spike. I want Spike.
Willow looks at Tara. Uh-oh.
WILLOW
You want Spike?
DAWN
He protects me.
TARA
Um... Sweetie, I don't know if we
can.
DAWN
Why not? Where's Spike?
WILLOW
Spike kinda left.
DAWN
Left?
TARA
We haven't seen him since...
DAWN
He's gone too?
WILLOW
Not gone-gone. Just slightly less
here.
DAWN
Everyone leaves.
Long uncomfortable pause.
TARA
We won't leave you.

INT. THE BRONZE -- NIGHT
Angel, Cordelia and Wes sit at a table. MELLOW MUSIC PLAYS.
They're all sad. Depressed.
CORDELIA
This place has changed.
ANGEL
Yeah.
CORDELIA
I guess everything has.
WESLEY
Should we perhaps, maybe, go to see
the others? Find out how they're
doing?
CORDELIA
I don't think we can. I'm not sure
if we fit into this world anymore.
Everything is so different now. Maybe
we should just go.
Just then, Xander and Anya walk in and see the group there.
They walk up to them.
XANDER
I thought you guys left town.
CORDELIA
We were about to.
XANDER
Oh. Sure you don't wanna stay?
CORDELIA
I don't know. I don't think we
really...
XANDER
It'd mean a lot to me, to all of us,
if you'd stay.
He and Cordy share a meaningful look. Not a romantic look,
but a bond.
XANDER (CONT'D)
You are all still part of our group.
You belong here with us.
Xander looks to Angel.
XANDER (CONT'D)
Even you.

Anya smiles.
ANYA
Cordelia. Your hair is... anyway, I
like your... shoes.
CORDELIA
Thanks?
Anya smiles at Xander, proud that she didn't say anything
wrong. Xander smiles back, though it's still a hollow smile.
He's still in pain.
ANGEL
How is everyone holding up?
XANDER
Dawn's freaking. Willow's taking it
hard. Giles is pretty deep in depresso
land. I can barely walk. Anya and
Tara are dealing, but you can tell
it hurts. And Spike broke down and
left town.
CORDELIA
Spike? What, he wanted to finish the
job himself?
XANDER
It wasn't like that.
Xander looks at Angel and cuts himself off before he says
anything bad.
ANYA
Spike was in love with Buffy.
CORDELIA
What? I thought vampires were evil.
Xander regrets that Angel heard that. Angel slowly stands up
and walks out of the club. Cordy moves like she might follow,
but Xander puts a hand on her arm.
XANDER
Let it sink in for a while.
INT. DAWN'S LIVING ROOM -- NIGHT
Willow and Tara are still sitting with Dawn. Comforting her.
Being there with her. But the room still seems empty somehow.
WILLOW
Dawn, you can't stay here alone.

DAWN
I'm not leaving. This is the only
thing I have left.
WILLOW
Well, then someone will stay with
you.
TARA
I--I can do it.
Willow and Dawn look at Tara.
TARA (CONT'D)
I mean, it's either this or I go
back home for the summer and that's
become a lot less appealing an idea
since I turned my back on my family
and kicked them out of my life. So I
guess, um, what I'm saying is...
could I stay here?
Dawn looks at Tara. Slowly, she begins to nod. Tara's got a
home. She smiles at Dawn.
WILLOW
It'll be fun. You guys can listen to
music and dance and have smores and
pizza and stuff. Like one long slumber
party.
Willow's jealous.
WILLOW (CONT'D)
I can come over sometimes, right?
DAWN
I don't feel like partying much right
now.
TARA
I know.
EXT. THE BRONZE/STREET -- NIGHT
Xander, Anya, Cordy and Wes are walking out of the Bronze.
The party inside is loud, but they're just not into it.
XANDER
I thought it might help to be in a
happy loud place tonight, but in the
end, it was just loud and annoying.
ANYA
Maybe we should go see Dawn. She
must be scared.
(MORE)

ANYA (CONT'D)
All alone and small and fragile.
She's used to having a slayer around.
Now any old vampire can come along
and just snap her like a twig.
CORDELIA
How's she holding up?
XANDER
As good as can be expected, I guess.
WESLEY
Poor girl. I wish there was something
we could do to help.
XANDER
I guess the only thing we can do is
be there for her.
They see a FLASH OF LIGHT coming from around the corner.
Confused, they rush up to the street. They see that Angel
hasn't gotten far. He's battling a dragon. The same dragon
that escaped the portal just before Buffy killed herself.
It's mid-air and Angel is on it's back punching it, but having
no effect. The flash of light that they saw comes from a
power line that the dragon must have hit. The wires are alive
and flashing with jolts of electricity.
CORDELIA
What the hell is that thing?
ANYA
It's a dragon. Are you blind?
The dragon turns and flies straight into the sky and out of
view. Seconds later, Angel comes crashing to the ground,
hitting it with a painful thud.
CORDELIA
Angel!

ACT TWO
FADE IN:
INT. XANDER'S APARTMENT -- NIGHT
Angel is laying on the couch, hardly able to move. Xander,
Cordy, and Wes are standing around him. Anya is on the phone
in the kitchen area, but we don't hear what she's saying.
CORDELIA
(to Angel)
How are you feeling?
ANGEL
Like I was just dropped from a dragon
who was flying a hundred feet in the
air.
CORDELIA
But that's not all that bad for a
vampire, is it? I mean, you've fallen
out windows and stuff before, right?
ANGEL
I kinda landed funny this time.
WESLEY
Yes, I noticed that.
XANDER
Very observant, you are, Wes. Was it
his bone poking out through his pants
that tipped you off?
ANGEL
I'll be fine in a day or two.
Anya hangs up the phone and joins them.
ANYA
I just talked to Giles. He's on his
way.
XANDER
What about the others?
ANYA
They're with Dawn.
XANDER
Don't bother them then.
CORDELIA
Okay, so am I the only one wondering
what we're supposed to do about the
huge dragon?

WESLEY
I've never seen anything like it
before.
ANYA
It was probably freed when the portal
was open. Y'know, like that alien
species that took over city hall.
CORDELIA
What is it with city hall in this
town? Can't it ever just be normal
people in there?
WESLEY
We should probably research the
dragon. I'm not sure if we'll have
any luck, since it's not of this
dimension, but it's worth a try.
XANDER
Right. You and Giles can do that at
the magic shop. Cordy, you stay here
with Angel and keep him all comfy.
Me and Anya will get Buffy and do a
search of the caves and stuff like
that. I'm guessing that this thing
is pretty well hidden.
Everyone falls silent. Xander doesn't even realize what he
just said. Then it hits him. The pain comes back.
XANDER (CONT'D)
Oh man.
ANGEL
It's a good plan. Just don't try
anything heroic until we can fight
this thing.
XANDER
I didn't mean to...
ANGEL
We know.
ANYA
We should go.
INT. THE MAGIC BOX -- NIGHT
Giles and Wesley walk through the doors in a hurry. Giles
walks to a bookcase and starts looking through his books.
Wes just kinda stands there.

WESLEY
Um... I'm afraid I don't know where
to start looking.
GILES
Try the second level. It's where I
keep the more dangerous books.
WESLEY
Right.
Wes starts to go up the stairs, but stops. He looks at Giles.
WESLEY (CONT'D)
I want to tell you... I think you
did a wonderful job with her. She
was truly the finest.
Giles looks at him. Touched.
GILES
Thank you.
Wes nods and continues up to the second level.
WESLEY
(to himself)
A lot better than my slayer, I'd
say.
EXT. WOODS -- NIGHT
Xander and Anya walk slowly through the woods. Anya is holding
a stake. Xander is holding a battle ax.
ANYA
How much farther?
XANDER
I think we're almost there. It's
hard to tell.
They walk a bit more. Anya wants to say something, but isn't
sure how. She begins to say it, but then stops. Finally, she
just says it.
ANYA
I miss her too, you know.
Xander stops walking.
XANDER
I know.
ANYA
It hurts.
(MORE)

ANYA (CONT'D)
It hurts that she's gone and we'll
all die now. But it also hurts because
I see the pain in your eyes and I
don't like it.
Xander doesn't know how to reply.
ANYA (CONT'D)
You can talk about it. To me. If you
need to.
XANDER
I might take you up on that offer. I
have a lot to let go of.
(beat)
But we have to hunt now.
ANYA
Right.
They walk more.
ANYA (CONT'D)
But you will talk, right?
INT. DAWN'S LIVING ROOM -- NIGHT
Willow, and Tara are still sitting. Dawn is now resting her
head on Willow's lap. Willow is running her hand through
Dawn's hair. The tv is on, but nobody's really paying
attention to it. Dawn is almost falling asleep.
WILLOW
(mouthed only, to
Tara)
She's almost asleep.
Tara nods. It's good that Dawn will be able to sleep. Dawn's
eyes close.
Then there's a LOUD KNOCK on the door. Dawn jumps up, awake
as ever. Willow and Tara frown a little.
WILLOW (CONT'D)
I'll get it.
Willow walks to the front door and opens it. It's Cordy and
Angel (Cordy's holding Angel up).
WILLOW (CONT'D)
Cordelia. Angel. What are you doing
here?

16.
CORDELIA
Well, I got nurse duty with vamp boy
here, and got bored sitting around
Xander's place. So I thought we'd
drop in and see how Dawn was doing.
WILLOW
Oh. Well, come in then.
Cordy and Angel start to walk in, but Angel hits the invisible
vampire barrier. He's confused at first, but not for long.
WILLOW (CONT'D)
I thought you could come in here.
ANGEL
I could. Before... I mean, Buffy
invited me and she...
WILLOW
(sad)
Doesn't live here anymore.
Tara joins them at the door.
TARA
Come in.
Angel tries again, and is a little surprised to get in.
ANGEL
You live here?
WILLOW
She's staying with Dawn for a while.
They walk into the living room. Cordy puts Angel in a chair.
Dawn sees Cordy. Cordy walks to her. Dawn stands up and hugs
her.
CORDELIA
How are you?
Dawn replies only with a shrug. After Dawn hugs Cordy she
looks at Angel. Obviously never the best of friends. But she
goes and hugs him anyway. They share their love of Buffy.
DAWN
Are you guys staying in town?
CORDELIA
Only for a while. I think we're
heading back day after tomorrow, or
as soon as this dragon thing is taken
care of.

WILLOW
Dragon?
CORDELIA
It's what tossed Angel.
Willow now notices that Cordy is looking at Tara.
WILLOW
Oh, Cordy, Angel, this is Tara.
CORDELIA
Is she your...?
WILLOW
Yeah.
Cordy goes to Tara and gives her a "Welcome ot he family"
hug.
CORDELIA
It's good to meet you.
TARA
You too.
DAWN
Dragon. I saw one of those come out
of the portal just before...
WILLOW
Yeah, a lot of things got out that
night. I guess we'll have to clean
up the town.
CORDELIA
Xander and Anya went to look for
it's home. Wes and Giles are
researching.
WILLOW
I might be able to work a spell to
help fight it when the time comes.
(looks at Tara)
Both of us, I mean. And maybe we can
find a spell to just send all the
things back to wherever they come
from.
DAWN
Can I help?
TARA
Dawn, I don't know if you should.

DAWN
I want to. Please. I really need to
get my mind someplace that doesn't
involve crying and pain.
Willow and Tara exchange a look. Should they?
CORDELIA
I think she should. I mean, it might
help.
Willow and Tara still look at each other. Did they even hear
Cor?
ANGEL
I agree.
Finally, Willow decides.
WILLOW
Okay. You can help us with this. But
the second it gets dangerous, you
get your butt out of there. Got it?
DAWN
Got it.
WILLOW
I'll call Giles and see what we can
do.
CORDELIA
Dawn, kitchen.
Dawn and Cordy head off into the kitchen.
INT. DAWN'S KITCHEN -- DAY
Cordy sits on the counter. She motions for Dawn to sit next
to her.
DAWN
Did you wanna say something?
CORDELIA
I just wanted to see how you were
doing.
DAWN
I'm okay, I guess.
CORDELIA
Dawn, remember when you and me would
hang out while Buffy and the others
were off slaying or whatever and
your mom was out?

Dawn looks at the ground.
DAWN
Yeah.
CORDELIA
I was always honest with you. I
thought you would always be honest
with me too. We're friends. You don't
have to put on an act. I know you
hurt.
DAWN
I don't know what you want me to
say.
CORDELIA
(beat)
Okay, when I moved out to LA and
first met up with Angel, I knew this
guy. Doyle. He was a good friend...
okay, he was annoying sometimes and
kinda smelled funny, but he was still
a good friend.
She takes a breath. It's still kinda touchy with her.
CORDELIA (CONT'D)
Just when I started to see something
more with him, he died. He killed
himself to save Angel, me, and a
bunch of other good demons. Dawn, it
was one of, if not the hardest thing
that ever happened to me.
(beat)
I can't pretend to know what you
feel right now. But I know that it
hurts. A lot. And people will tell
you that it's gonna be okay. But,
let's face it, that doesn't help.
Dawn starts to tear up.
CORDELIA (CONT'D)
You don't have to hide what you really
do feel from me. I know it hurts. It
hurts for me too. And it hurts for
everyone else, but they're trying to
be strong for you. Buffy was a good
friend. I hadn't talked to her in a
while, but I still felt like she was
one of the few people I could always
count on. And aside from that thing
on her face, she was always my biggest
competition for best looking.

DAWN
You saw the thing too? I thought I
was the only one.
INT. THE MAGIC BOX -- NIGHT
Giles hangs up the phone and returns to the table where Wes
is poured over several books at once.
GILES
Cordelia and Angel went to Buffy's
house.
WESLEY
How is Dawn?
GILES
I'm not sure. She tries to be strong,
but the look in her eyes. I don't
know what I can do for her.
WESLEY
Where will she stay?
GILES
I'm not sure. Tara will stay with
her at the house for a while, but
after that, I don't know where she'll
end up.
WESLEY
Poor girl.
GILES
Yes, well... we haven't time to think
about that now. Have you found
anything?
WESLEY
There are several references to
dragons in these books.
GILES
How do we stop it?
WESLEY
It says that the only way would be
to pierce it's heart with a sword
blessed by a knight.
GILES
Great. And how shall we go about
that?

WESLEY
One type of demon also possesses the
ability to blend into it's
surroundings. Do you know what type
of dragon it is?
GILES
All we know for sure is that it comes
from another dimension. But there
are countless dimensions, I can't
tell which one.
WESLEY
There must be some way to get
information on this creature.
Giles thinks for a moment. He gets an idea.
GILES
There might be one way.
EXT. FOREST -- NIGHT
Anya is holding onto Xander's arm as they walk.
ANYA
We should have it outside, with
flowers all around and I can have my
hair up and all pretty with those
annoying little white flower things
in it.
XANDER
Huh?
ANYA
The wedding. And we can pass out
parasols to all the vampire guests
do they don't burst into flames and
ruin everything.
XANDER
Vampires? I can think of one who is
on my "maybe" list.
ANYA
Well we have to invite Spike, and
Angel.
XANDER
Spike? At my wedding? How about not?
ANYA
Spike has to come. He's a friend.

DAWN
Oh, I like that movie.
CORDELIA
Who is Pete?
TARA
I need a nap.
EXT. FOREST -- NIGHT
ANGLE : XANDER, GILES AND ANYA
Walking through the woods. Looking for the dragon. Xander
has the sword.
XANDER
This is some fun dragon hunting.

ANYA
Maybe if we called it. Y'know, like
you'd call a cat?
(beat)
Here dragon, dragon, dragon.
GILES
Somehow, I don't think that will
work.
ANYA
I don't see you doing anything to
help.
ANGLE : WILLOW, ANGEL AND WESLEY
Also walking. Also looking.
WESLEY
Are we sure that the dragon is, in
fact, back from where you sent it?
WILLOW
Pretty sure.
WESLEY
So where is it? Why didn't it
materialize where it vanished from?
WILLOW
It's not a science, Wes.
ANGEL
I don't see it anywhere.
Wes starts to limp a little.
WESLEY
Great. There's a pebble in my shoe.
They stop walking. Wesley leans against an unusually scaly
rock and takes off his shoe. He shakes the pebble out and
puts the shoe back on.
WESLEY (CONT'D)
Right then. Back to the search.
WILLOW
Wes, I don't mean to alarm you or
anything, but...
Willow points to the rock that Wes leaned on. Wes turns around
and realizes that it is, in fact, the dragon. It is still
and silent. He jumps back.

ANGEL
Don't make a noise. I think it's
asleep.
WESLEY
(whispered)
We should get the others.
WILLOW
(whispered)
I'll go.
Willow starts to gently creep off to get the others. She
trips on what looks like a log at first, and falls. She then
realizes that she tripped on the tail of the dragon. The
dragon wakes up. It's angry.
ANGLE : XANDER, GILES AND ANYA
A SCREAM is heard. They run to see what's happening.
ANGLE : WILLOW, ANGEL AND WESLEY
Angel is trying to fight the dragon. The dragon is waving
it's tail at him and trying to hit him with it's short arms.
It hit's Angel with it's tail and he goes flying into a tree.
He tries to get up, but he can't. His leg is hurt again. The
dragon turns it's attention to Wesley and Willow just as
Xander, Giles and Anya join them. The dragon knocks Wesley
down easily. Xander tries to hit it with the sword, but can't
get a good shot. He cuts it a couple times, but spends most
of his time avoiding the tail and arms.
Giles, Anya and Willow try to attack at the dragon's other
side while Xander has it distracted. The dragon realizes
this, and spreads it's wings. All three of them are thrown.
The dragon hits Xander too now. He goes down, dropping the
sword. The dragon puts it's head right in Xander's face and
ROARS LOUDLY.
ANYA
Xander!
Willow sees that Xander is in danger. She closes her eyes
for a moment. When they open, they are solid black. A drop
of blood drips from her nose.
The sword begins to float. The dragon doesn't see it. Wes
and Angel see this.
WESLEY
(amazed)
My word.
ANGEL
Her eyes.

Xander tries to crawl out of the dragon's way, but the dragon
stays on him.
XANDER
Help. Help would be very helpful.
ANYA
It's okay, sweetie. Willow's doing
that scary eye thing again.
The sword shoots through the air, powered by Willow's mind.
The dragon opens it's mouth to rip Xander apart, but it
doesn't get a chance. The sword digs into it's back, almost
totally inside the dragon. The dragon HOWLS IN PAIN. It drops
to the ground, dead.
Xander, Anya, Giles, Willow (eyes back to normal) and Wes
get to their feet. Wes helps Angel up. They all gather near
the dragon's body.
WESLEY
Willow, that power was...
extraordinary.
Willow wipes the blood under her nose.
WILLOW
Kinda cool, huh?
Wesley and Giles share a look. Not really thinking it's all
that cool.
XANDER
So what do we do with this thing
now?
GILES
That's a... good question.
ANYA
I have an idea.
EXT. THE MAGIC BOX -- DAY
Dozens of people are gathered around the shop. Smoke gently
blows into view. We slowly FOLLOW THE SMOKE back to a grill.
Giles is cooking on it, in front of the store. A banner hangs
behind him it reads : "FREE BURGERS"
Xander and Willow stand near Giles.
XANDER
This is going pretty well.
WILLOW
People seem to like them.

Tara walks up and holds a burger out to Willow.
TARA
They're good.
WILLOW
I think I'll pass.
Tara shrugs and hands the burger to Xander who takes it
happily.
INT. THE MAGIC BOX -- DAY
The shop is packed. People with burgers browsing and buying.
Anya is behind the counter, ringing them up. Dawn and Cordelia
are sitting on stools behind her.
ANYA
This is working out very well.
DAWN
What better way to attract customers
than free food?
CORDELIA
Some people... they'll do anything
for a freebie. Some people actually
let perfect strangers into their
homes with just the thought of
something free.
DAWN
And you'd never do that?
CORDELIA
Me? Please. I'm way too smart for
that.
DAWN
Today's been fun.
She suddenly snaps out of happy mode so fast, she could get
whiplash.
DAWN (CONT'D)
I wish Buffy was here to see it.
Cordelia puts a hand on Dawn's shoulder.
EXT. THE MAGIC BOX -- DAY
Back with Willow, Xander, Giles and Tara. It's somber.
WILLOW
It's not fair. She should be here.
Xander puts his arm around Willow.

EXT. GRAVEYARD -- NIGHT
Angel limps through the grave yard. He's holding flowers. He
finally reached Buffy's grave. He notices that a single red
rose has been placed on the grave, among many other flowers...
this is the only rose. The other flowers are wilting, but
the rose is fresh. Angel puts his flowers down and picks up
the rose. He looks around to see if anyone else is there
that might have placed the rose on the grave. But nobody is
around. He puts it back where it was. No big deal.
He lowers onto his good knee.
ANGEL
I... I'm not sure what I'm supposed
to say here. I don't visit many
graves.
(beat)
It's still strange to me that you're
gone. I guess it hasn't really hit
me yet, since we've been apart for
so long. But...
He looks at the name on the tombstone. He looks at it for a
long moment, and finally touches the name with his fingers.
ANGEL (CONT'D)
I miss you. I have for a long time,
I guess. I just always thought we'd
have another chance at some point.
(beat)
Maybe if I didn't leave. Maybe you
wouldn't have had to do this.
He takes a moment to gather himself.
ANGEL (CONT'D)
You shouldn't be in there, Buffy.
It's not right. You belong here.
Living. Having fun with your friends.
Falling in love. Having a family. It
shouldn't have to end like this.
It's too soon.
He stays there. Not knowing what happens next.
INT. DAWN'S LIVING ROOM -- DAY
It's later. Dawn and Tara are relaxing in front of the tv.
Willow calls to them from the kitchen.
WILLOW (O.S.)
Anyone need anything?
TARA
(calling back to Willow)
Water would be good.

Dawn?
DAWN
(calling back)
I'm okay.
Willow comes back into the room a moment later. She's holding
a bag of chips, a can of soda, and Tara's water. She hands
Tara the water.
TARA
Thanks.
WILLOW
So what are we watching?
DAWN
Breakfast Club.
WILLOW
Ooh, I love this movie. I used to
have a crush on Emilio Estevez.
Tara smiles.
DAWN
Why?
Willow can't answer. She's stumped.
TARA
When I was a kid, I wanted to be
Molly Ringwald. I wanted to have
short red hair, and wear lip gloss
and dance.
DAWN
When I was a kid, I wanted to be
Daphne, from Scooby Doo. She was
pretty and got to hang around with a
talking dog.
Tara laughs. Dawn grabs some chips from Willow's bag.
TARA
Who did you want to be, Willow?
WILLOW
Nobody. I was happy being me.
TARA
C'mon, you had to have wanted to be
someone.

DAWN

Willow gives in.
WILLOW
Fine. When I was a kid, I wanted to
be Olivia Newton John.
TARA
Why?
WILLOW
Because, she was pretty and danced.
But that's so not the real reason.
DAWN
Didn't Xander tell me once that he
had a crush on Olivia Newton John?
WILLOW
Did he? Huh... go figure.
The DOORBELL RINGS.
WILLOW (CONT'D)
(relieved)
Doorbell. *
TARA
I'll get it.
Tara goes to the door and opens it.
TARA (CONT'D)
Can I help you?
ANGLE : WOMAN AT THE DOOR
The woman is dressed in a black suit and is holding a file
folder filled with papers.
WOMAN
Hello. My name is Dora Yunn. I'm
with Social Services. Child and family
services department. I'm looking
for...
She checks the name in her files.
